Karuwha Trust began in 2005. It was formed out of journeys a small group of young New Zealanders began making to Waitangi, over Treaty commemorations in February. They wanted to know what really went on at Waitangi, not what was portrayed in the media. They wanted to understand the whys and wherefores of a national past that is still being played out in the early 21st century.
The Trust continues to facilitate groups of people to travel to Waitangi for commemorations. We continue to look for new ways to shed light on the stories that bind us together.
